Hello and welcome to Week 31! We're officially in Quarter 4: Our Heroes where the unit asks us, "what does it mean to be a hero?" We will continue discovering our answers with the continuation of our novel study, "Tangerine" by Edward Bloor. We wrapped up Part Two before Spring Break, discussing concepts such as point-of-view, conflict, summarization techniques and symbolism. During Part Three we'll be drawing connections between the novel, ourselves and the greater world. We'll also be looking at Paul and his actions through a heroic lens. We are continuing with our Greek/Latin Root Words and have officially started book two! That means we're on Unit 5: "Head To Toe." As always, we're working on our reading stamina with 10 minutes, daily, of free reading. Absences- If a student is absent, they are responsible for making up all missed work in a timely manner. This can be done through Canvas. There is a message on our Canvas homepage with specific directions on what to do when absent. Please make sure your student comes to class every day with their ELA folder, a charged Chromebook and their Chromebook charging cord. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Math - Mr. Collins
This week we will complete our Algebraic Expressions unit by comparing equivalent expressions using tables and properties. We will end the week by taking CDA #7 as a practice test and completing a study guide over the 3-day weekend. This will prepare them for the Unit 7 assessment next week. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Science- Ms. Parker
This week, we begin our final Unit – Plants and Ecosystems. Students will be doing a lot of hands on activities to help them learn and use new concepts. With that being said, a lot of these are pretty messy and our science classroom could really use some Chlorox wipes. Please send some in with your student if you are able. Thank you. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Social Studies - Ms. Crosson This week we will explore Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. We will learn about the birth of democracy and most importantly, the republic. We will learn about the prominent leaders such as Pericles, Alexander the Great, Philip of Macedonia, Julius Caesar, and Augustus. We will also learn about great educators such as Socrates and Aristotle. We will then take time to learn about the geography of the region as well as new vocabulary terms so that we can keep our skills sharp! If you have any questions, comment, or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
